Performs supervisory responsibilities to effectively manage personnel including interviewing, training, planning, assigning work, appraising performance, disciplining, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Oversees the operations of the workers' compensation department.
Establishes and maintains positive working relationships to meet or exceed customer expectations.
Develops, implements and refines department policies and procedures to ensure overall effective departmental performance.
Negotiates workers' compensation claim settlements while working closely with the company's legal department in handling workers' compensation litigation files.
Reviews and maintains adequate indemnity and medical reserves which comply with the company's workers' compensation reserving guidelines.
Establishes "best practices" for investigating workers' compensation claims while staying informed of current workers' compensation handling practices.
Implements and manages company's return-to-work program, including contacting nurse case managers on treatment options.
Reviews medical bills submitted to outside vendors.
Determines compensability eligibility.
Handles workers' compensation claims which are not in litigation.
Monitors workers' compensation files and establishes notification and approval procedures prior to claims being settled.
Takes after-hours calls relating to accidents and injuries.
Adheres to company policies and procedures and ensures compliance.
Travels as needed.
Receives and carries out instructions.
Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
